On Discipline
-what I learned in life today...

According to a monk I met recently, there are four basic and common things that are corrosive to growth and development of the spirit.

The act of Killing corrodes compassion.
Gambling corrodes truthfulness
sexual infidelity corrodes cleanliness
toxicity corrodes discipline.

Of all the above I could really understand #4. From childhood, I have been a person who struggles greatly with discipline. But the further thought occurs, that although toxicity corrodes the essence of discipline, a lack of discipline to begin with, would make one predisposed to have toxicity issues. Or perhaps a parent having toxicity issues can influence a child to have discipline issues. Its a chicken and egg relationship. Its simply a matter of breaking the cycle.
